1st Selsdon and Addington Scout Group

Here at St John's we sponsor a Scout Group called the 1st Selsdon and Addington. The Group runs three active sections for boys and girls: Beavers (ages 6-8), Cubs (8-10.5) and Scouts (10.5-14). Each section meets weekly during term-time at the Scout Hut which is in the corner of the Church car park. The Group is inclusive and open to everyone where the young people and leaders alike have a great time going on adventures and tackling challenges whilst developing    #skillsforlife.

The Group also encourage adults to volunteer their time with them, from tea-makers to kayak instructors, however much time you can spare, there is a role for you! Did you know volunteering is #goodforyou – particularly your mental health.

For more information, to join or to discuss volunteering your time, please go to their website: www.1stselsdonscouts.org.uk

Girlguiding at St John’s

With Guiding, girls and adults have fun, adventures and the space to discover their potential

At St John’s Girlguiding Hall we currently have one Rainbow unit, the 4th Selsdon Rainbows and two Brownie units - 3rd Selsdon Brownies and 9th Selsdon Brownies.

Rainbows is for all girls aged between 4 and 7

Rainbows learn by doing – they get their hands dirty, do sports, arts and crafts and play games. Being a Rainbow is all about having the space to try new things, taking part in a range of different fun activities with girls their own age. Rainbows develop self-confidence and make lots of new friends. Rainbows learn and grow through a programme of age-appropriate activities, trips and adventures - both in their regular meetings and at special events.

Brownies is for girls aged between 7 and 10

Brownies is about trying new things that teach girls about themselves, their community, and their world.

Brownies introduces girls to a world of new opportunities, challenges and fun.

Girls go along to camps, holidays, day trips and sleepovers. They get together with their friends at regular meetings where they learn new hobbies, get creative, develop skills and have outdoor adventures.

As well as trying activities in their meetings, girls choose from interest badges related to things they want to know more about.

Guides is for girls aged between 10 and 14

We hope to be able to re-open our Guide Unit for girls aged between 10 and 14 in the coming months and are looking for Adult Volunteers to help make this happen.

To keep all our units running we depend on our great Adult Volunteers and there are so many ways you could get involved as a volunteer. This could be on a regular or ad hoc basis, or you have a particular skill to share with the girls we would love to hear from you. We also have need for adult help with admin for running the units. You can have a huge impact and help us to ‘Make Guiding Happen’

If you have a child who is interested in joining Girlguiding or you would like to volunteer please call

Girlguiding on 0800 169 5901

 or email us at stjohnsgirlguiding@gmail.com
